After growing up in a seaside town on the east coast of Lincolnshire, it was Ed Waite’s move to the city to continue his fine art studies at university that became his inspiration.
‘I found myself looking upwards and often tripping up as I walked around the city. I work with urban scenes...my work develops as I build experience with those cities and I believe I create a direct and tangible feel’
Ed produces sketchbook work as he moves around the city before creating his bold, gestural large- scale paintings back in the studio. It is all about becoming absorbed with the structural surroundings, the vibrancy of the lights and busy city environment.
Painting techniques such as blended brushwork are combined with drizzle techniques executed with the opposite end of the paintbrush and directly from the nozzle of the paint bottle (inspired by ketchup bottles in a New York diner!). The end result is without doubt an expressive work of art that brings the scene to life and shows that intrinsic relationship between drawing and painting.
Ed has created several fantastic commissioned paintings, please enquire to arrange your own unique painting.
