Food Glorious Food is an exhibition of photographs by artist and photographer Mary Hill which looks at produce created by small business and producers and the value and beauty they bring to the city of Chester. The images are inspired by a love of everyday objects and food made with simple fresh ingredients which we often take for granted such as fresh bread, cheese, flowers and garlic.
Mary visited shops and growers and chose a selection of items to tell the story of food in Chester in her own way. The idea was to focus on items of food and drink to represent the whole and celebrate the contribution made by people in the city to create a vibrant food and drink culture.
In terms of technique Mary works in a studio with natural light to focus on light and form and colour in the images. She is interested in the still life tradition and how it has developed through history to be used today in art, advertising, magazines and social media and how this can increase appreciation for everyday foods, small business and creativity.
