Mattin Laurent Partarrieu
One of few living painters to be included in the Benezit museum dictionary of artists, French artist Mattin-Laurent Partarrieu creates figurative paintings full of narrative, life and humour.
Originally from the Basque area of France, Partarrieu draws upon society from across the country as a whole. Often his scenes depict everyday life of characters seen in places such as cafes and bars with references to past eras and that sense of nostalgia.
Expressive in his approach, he elongates his figures and slightly exaggerates their expressions in a way that truly captures the thoughts of his subjects in often amusing or vulnerable situations.
Partarrieu plays with the power of suggestion; his paintings leave you wondering what the next colourful scene in the story will be!
